Peru is mostly visited because of the historical Machu Picchu. Historians, antiquity enthusiasts, and plain tourist alike take time off just to see and experience a moment on the peak where the ancient Incas once lived. However, the trip is not purely good stuff. There are times when a planned vacation in Peru turns bad. To prevent this, there are a few things to take into account.
Mosquitoes
The country is tropical as regard climate. There are also rainforests left preserved. Thus, many kinds of insects, mosquitoes for one, abound in the country. These mosquitoes are often times carriers of diseases; malaria and dengue. In order to prevent acquiring any of these diseases from mosquitoes, travelers are advised to carry around mosquito repellant lotions, creams, bracelets and all to keep the insects away. This can also prevent rashes and allergies that may be acquired from mosquito bites.
The Inca Trail
The Inca trail is probably the most famous destination in the country. Like any hiking trail there are difficulties to be faced in this trail. The peak is so far up and the passage ways toward it is steep, rough, and winding. For people without enough endurance just halfway towards the peak is already difficult. This predicament is worse for those with knee or joint problems like arthritis. It is better to let the opportunity pass rather than regret while in the middle of it.
Tickets
Peru is a third world country and extortion and trickery is rampant in its cities as it is in other nations. In this country however, the most common trickery is done on bus tickets. Tickets with fake bus schedules are largely sold in the cities by traveling agencies wishing to get more from tourists. These tickets are usually priced higher than normal, and as was said, its schedule is fake. What was said to be a morning trip may actually be a mid afternoon commute. Thus, travelers who wish to ride Peruvian buses are advised to purchase their tickets from the bus station alone. This will ensure a correct bus schedule as well as a correct seat number.
