Spanish and Amerindian traditions are the main influences of Peruvian culture. Other influences include Asian, European, and African ethnic cultures.
Elaborate textiles, pottery, sculpture, and jewelry had been a part of Peruvian artistic traditions even before the arrival of the Incas. The Incas continued the tradition of making these crafts, in addition to their architectural achievements such as the Machu Picchu.
When the Spaniards arrived, Baroque became the de rigueur of colonial art. Religious objects and churches were regarded as masterpieces.
During the 20th century, Peruvian art, music and cuisine became eclectic and heavily influenced by Western culture.
