Oman history basically began in the 9th century BC. The first colonist in the land was the Portuguese troops. From 1508 to 1648, Oman remained under their rule. They were replaced by Ottoman Turks by the entry of 1741. While the Portuguese seemed to have been successful in ruling over Oman, the Ottomans were forcibly driven out by revolutionaries of country. After this struggle for freedom, Oman was left alone to handle the country's affairs on its own. Unfortunately, even by themselves, conflicts arose. The sultans and imams clashed until the 20th century, when the very last imam was expelled from the country. From this time, the government became busy improving and keeping the country peaceful and prosperous.
