More about Oman costs
Oman's national currency is the Omani rial (OMR). One rial is composed of 1,000.00 OMR (2,597.20 USD). The official current exchange rate is US$ 3.86 to 1.00 OMR (2.60 USD). There are many exchange establishments within Oman and ATMs in the country's main towns. Moneychangers have more competitive rates compared to banks and only charge a commission of 500.00 OMR (1,298.60 USD) for each cash transaction.
Accommodation ranges from luxurious hotels to rural huts made of date palm leaves in the desert. Although Oman is reinventing itself as a five-star destination, budget travelers won't have a problem looking for cheap room rates in Muscat or areas outside the capital. Some towns or cities, however, only offer high-end hotels and resorts as lodging so be sure to check with your travel agent. Food is affordable, with local meals priced at about 2.00 OMR (5.19 USD). The most inexpensive places for food are Khaboora and Sohar, charging about 11.00 OMR (28.57 USD) for three porottas and about 400.00 OMR (1,038.88 USD) for Ayla curry, Ayla fry, and Payarupperi.
