At the crossroads of the Middle East, Africa, and Far East, Omani cooking is an exquisite combination of various flavors. The major taste is spicy with additional herbs. Commonly served to guests is kahwa, some bitter drink made of melted brown sugar and many other spices. The main meal is lunch where maqbous, the national dish is served. Dinners are typically light involving foods like maqdeed (special dried meat) and muqalab (tripe and pluck cooked with spices).When out on the streets, food that may be availed range from barbecues called mishkak to pastries which are common to other Arab countries.
