The Glossary
fady - "means a taboo. A fady governs the everyday life of the locals and these must be observed no matter how senseless they might be as it is an insult to the people if a tourist is not to follow a fady."

Be sure to take your immunizations first, especially against malaria, before going on a trip to Madagascar. Malaria is prevalent across the country especially in safari parks and in forested areas. If you can’t have your immunizations or forgot to have one, make sure to sleep under a mosquito net. You can also put a generous amount of mosquito repellant onto your whole body and face, but make sure that you also wear an anti-mosquito clothing (like long-sleeve clothes) as sometimes, mosquito repellants are not enough to cover your entire skin or could wear off during the night. Never, ever forget to do this every day and every night even if the place seems mosquito-free for you (for example, your hotel room).
