A dry and wet monsoon with three basic seasons is the best description for Laos' weather and climate. The wet season characterized by rain pouring every once in a while daily, basically starts from May to October except for the towns of Phongsali, Hua Phan, and Xieng Khuang, which experiences the season a little earlier. The wet season is immediately succeeded by the dry season. This is divided to two sub-categories, which gave Laos three seasons. First subcategory is the cool dry season and the second one is hot dry season. From the terminologies themselves, the former has lower temperatures while the latter has otherwise. August is the wettest month and April is the hottest month.
