Laos is an old Southeast Asian country located in the northwest portion of the Indochinese peninsula. Its earliest settlers are the Lao people. These people are migrants from China during the 8th century. They are the founders of the very first Laotian state called the Lan Xang Kingdom. In 1713, this kingdom was Split into three and became a Siamese colony. From then, the history of Laos became a series of colonization and struggle for freedom, which was only completely obtained in 1954. After this year, the country was put under communist government and in high dependence on the Soviet Union. Today, Laos remains a poor a country in constant battle for its people's desire for improvement.
