Gokturks or Uyghurs, the name of the original settlers of Kyrggyztan. These are red-haired, fair-complexioned, and blue or green eyed people. They were once led by the famous King Bumin who eventually died after declaring himself great king. A number of empires were built right after Bumin's death and these administered the country until the Mongols came to invade. These first invaders managed to have part of the country's population with mixed nationalities and attributes before they were driven out by the Timurids and Uzbeks, who in turn was also driven out by the strong Russian army.
Under the Russian leadership, the country started to undergo changes. Cultural formation, educational improvements, and social revolution took place. For over 75 years, Kyrgyztan stayed under the wings of Russia. Only in 1991 did the country finally regain its independence. It started a democratic government and its people are enjoying the liberation.
