Kyrgyzstan is a small third world country. Though it is not very good to conclude, this country has a high petty-crime rate. Travelers are warned about pickpockets and robbers hunting prey in the streets of the major cities. Tourists are the favorite targets as they are believed to carry a lot of money. Be warned.
Another matter to be warned about is the authorities. Unfortunately, some Kyrgyz cops are not honest. They try to lure tourists to out-of-sight places and extort money from them. Travelers are advised to be cautious in these situations. The best thing to do is to refuse being taken away from the public eye. Do all negotiations right then and there. This is to assure a hassle-free tour in the country of the nomadic people.
