Explore lowland rain forests, swamps, mangroves, and beach-side forests in Manusela National Park. You can sign up for a three to a seven-day hike to see various species of orchids, about 117 kinds of birds (like kingfishers and parrots), and around a hundred types of animals like the rare Timor deer, marbled cat, dugong, green turtles, and plenty of butterflies.
The park has four villages from where you can interact with mountain tribes who believe in nature spirits. You may opt to stay in the villages or camp in Wai Isal, where you can also observe wild animals in action. The park also has a dormant volcano, Mt. Binaya, which you can climb and explore to swim at the waterfalls.
May to October is the best time to be in the park for the pleasant climate. You may also want to visit in November just in time for the cultural Masohi Festival, in April for the kora-kora or rowing races, or in July for the Darwin Ambon International Yacht Race.
