As is known by many, Egypt goes back as far as the beginning of history and is one of the earliest civilizations. Like Mesopotamia, it was also birthed by a river that is the longest in all Africa and the world: the Nile. It's even referred to as "the gift of the Nile." Rising up to this title, Egypt indeed is a gift of the river to the world, with its numerous tourist destinations and unique citizens.
Ruled by pharaoh after pharaoh, Egypt was a powerful empire during the ancient times. Its royal family was draped with gold, silk and satin from head to foot. Its commoners were farmers, fisher folks and carpenters. However, despite the wealth and prosperity, it did not escape the attack of small countries. It too was invaded by the Persians, then the army of Alexander the Great.
The kingdom remained under Alexander's rule until his death. It underwent a succession crisis which was only resolved by appointing Ptolemy as temporary successor whilst the regent remained unborn. Ptolemy took the position seriously and by the time Alexander III's kingdom fell, he has established himself as the official king of Egypt. He successfully protected the country from invaders and preserved the freedom that Egyptians are enjoying to this day.
