The Dalai Lama and the movies Seven Years in Tibet are only few of the things relative to Tibet and its history. It may be noted that both mainly tackle Buddhist history. According to studies, the reason behind this is that most of the country's history were recorded and written by Buddhist monks who are the predominant settlers of the country.
Recently found artifacts show that Tibet began as an empire led Namri Songtsen. Soon this dynasty dies and was followed by plenty other dynasties whose leaders came from the same lineage. However, by the year 842, the empire was divided. With this division, the country weakened and soon was conquered by the Mongols led by Gengis Khan. In the centuries that the Mongols conquered, the country experienced stability and peace. The age of the Dalai Lama did not take place until the 1500. By the 18th and 19th century, the Dalai Lama was already declared the administrator of the Tibetan government. What followed were invasions by different countries, first Nepal, then European countries like Portugal and Britain. Afterwards, the country fell into the hands of the Chinese who until now is in negotiation with the Dalai Lama as regards the country's full independence.
