Myanmar Good to know |
Myanmar is a quiet country in which technology is not as advanced as most Western countries. In traveling to this country, this fact should be noted as doing otherwise may cause a bad vacation. Electronic things like mobile phones can prove to be useless in some areas of this country resulting to a cut-off from the world experience. Getting cash can also be a huge problem in this country. A tourist should be aware that Automated Telling Machines or ATMs are non-existent in Myanmar. People go from place to place carrying around stacks of cash in their bags as credit cards and checks are equally inutile for numerous establishments.
Furthermore on money matters, Myanmar notes are called Kyat. Although upon arrival at the airport an official exchanger is available for changing the dollars to the country's legal tender, travelers are advised not to avail of this service and instead have their dollars exchanged in the ‘black market' or under desks in hotels, restaurants and shops around the city. This will ensure that the kyat being handed is really worth the dollars being exchanged.
