Myanmar Good to know |
Myanmar's culture is indeed as vibrant as its neighboring countries'. A mixture of Mongolian and Indo-Aryan with a sprinkle of British. This can describe the culture of Myanmar. however, it will not be complete without saying that it is predominantly Mon in nature. Most people are inclined to the Buddhist ways which the Mon people practiced. Their architecture is composed of Buddhist pagodas and monasteries. The national holidays as well as major festivals like the Thingyan (Burmese New Year Water Festival), where people are allowed to throw water at each other, and Vassa or the Buddhist Lent are mostly based on religious celebration and Buddhist calendar. The people's customs like giving utmost respect to teh elders together, and other widely accepted norms are also derived from the virtues of the Buddhist monks. No sociologist can deny the authority of Myanmar's first settlers to its over-all way of life.
