Morocco gained its independence from being under the wings of France on the second of March 1956. However, the Morocco then is not the entire Morocco known today. The areas not under France but under Spain remained a colony until a few months later. Only then was the country completely free. The first leader was Mohammed V who was successful in imposing reforms for the betterment of the country. He was replaced by Hassan II, whose reign is characterized by political unrest and abuse of power. Hassan also initiated quests to widen the Moroccan territory. He and his troops attempted to invade a part of Algeria but were unsuccessful. The country was left to negotiate with UN (United Nations). This was followed by a ceasefire, but the country remained under the tyrannical control of the King and his descendants.
