Another archeologists' haven for ancient Egyptian relics is Beni Hasan. To the east bank of Beni Hasan and Nile River is a vast necropolis of 39 cliff-hewn tombs and decrepit temples like the Speous Artemidos or the "Grotto of Artemis." Many of the tombs provide information about the unique forms of mortuary art used during Egypt's early Middle Kingdom.
