Cool winter is the best time to hike the highlands. For jungle exploration, all-year-round is ideal because the temperature is humid. The coastal areas are warm while the sierra is chilly all-year-long.
The Galapagos Islands experience hot, rainy weather from January to April, making the waters comfortably hot for snorkeling. For the rest of the year, the water is chilly. Typically, the surfing season is from December to February.
Expect an influx of visitors from June to August when festivals are in full swing. The major holidays are Christmas, Holy Week or Semana Santa, Inti Raymi (June 24) and Independence Day (May 24).
