More about Ecuador costs
Prices may have risen since changing the official currency to the US Dollar, but a trip to Ecuador is still affordable. With $15 a day, backpack travelers can sleep in basic hotels, eat set meals, and take the bus to get around. Set lunch meals (called almuerzo) in inexpensive restaurants consisting of soup, a main course, and desert that only cost $1 to $2. About $25 a day lets you stay in midrange hotels, take the occasional taxi ride, afford museum admission, and party at night.
A luxurious stay in Ecuador costs between $50 and $70 daily. Prices start to increase when outdoor- oriented tours are included. Mountain-biking, climbing, and bird-watching activities will cost about $35 to $80 a day. A visit to the Galapagos Islands will eat up a significant part of your budget. High-end restaurants include 12 percent tax and 10 percent service.
