When entering a temple or a dzong (bastion or fortress) make sure your are dressed conservatively. Cotton pants are recommended for men while long skirts for women. You are expected to leave your shoes by the doorstep if you intend to enter a religious building. Avoid wrapping a jacket around your waist for this is frowned upon. Shoulders should be amply covered as well.
Since the weather in Bhutan varies throughout the day, make sure that your clothes can be layered, so you can just add or peel off an article of clothing to make yourself comfortable.
