It was only in 2003 when mobile phones were introduced int the country. Making a call revolved around using the local telephone. Though Bhutan (country code: +975) may not have many opportunities in the realm of technology, specifically tools and gadgetry, it is now possible to receive and make calls from your mobile phone. Be sure that your phone is in roaming mode. Better yet, you may want to purchase a SIM card and just load it with pre-paid credits which can be bought anywhere.

If you wish to contact your love ones back home, opt for the Internet (Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live or Skype), you can proceed to Internet shops around Thimpu and Bhumtang ( JP Internet Café Jojos Building, Chang Lam, Kendorji's Internet Cafe  SNS Building, Chang Lam, and  Bits & Bytes Norzin Lam). Check out the rates before using a computer--and also the connection whether it is broadband or dial up. Rates for Internet access anywhere in Bhutan should not be higher than USD 2 per hour.
