The climate in Bhutan varies, depending on the elevation. Monsoons affect parts of the country, particularly to the west, which suffer from 60-90% of the total annual rainfall. The lowlands and foothills experience humid, subtropical climes, while in the inner Himalayan valleys and highlands from Central Bhutan going up to the north are more pleasant. Finally, the peaks of the Himalayas have year-round snow.
