UAE started as an organized group of Arabian Peninsula Sheikdoms. It was said to have been inhabited as far back as the Neolithic period. The people said to have fared by trading pearl with neighboring countries and with traveling merchants.
Islam was first introduced in this country in the 630. From that day forth, the country has become a predominantly Muslim country. Despite the faith, however, UAE did not escape the great dream of the Portuguese conquerors. The country came under its rule until they were replaced by the Ottomans in the 16th century. The country was only set free after signing a treaty with European countries. Everything would have been smooth sailing after this freedom, but the main industry of the country started to falter. Pearling started to decrease profit. This decline in pearl profit led to the oil era.
The oil era is the time when the country discovered deposits of oil in the country and made use of it as the new major industry. This remains to be the country's main source of income today.
