The cuisine of UAE, just like other Muslim countries, was influenced not only by the country's history but also by the religion. Islamic religion prohibits the eating of pork. This resulted to restaurants in the city having no dish cooked with pork. Alcohol is also prohibited by the religion. Thus, men are punished whenever they are caught drinking.
The most common food in UAE is the shawarma. It did not originate in the country but is usually consumed by the locals, expats, and tourists. Aside from being a specialty dish in restaurants, shawarma doubles as a streetfood, which may be bought from side-street vendors at a lower price.
After a snack of shawarma, tourists may take a sip of the country's special coffee. It is made from real coffee beans, brewed and served steaming.
