Turkey did not start out as it is now. It was previously the Ottoman Empire, the one constantly mentioned in the histories of the different countries in the Middle East. Its rulers were very ambitious; always on the go to conquer surrounding lands and making it part of the empire. Only in 1922 was Turkey declared the republic it is now, but before it all Turkey encountered a number of humps along the way.
The country was under war for independence for ten years before it finally gained its independence from the Greeks. The first republic that was established after freedom was from a single party. The country experienced continuous improvements for ten years under this republic. When the Second World War exploded, Turkey signed a peace treaty with Germany and kept on the neutral. This resulted to maintained peace despite an on-going war outside its borders.
By the year 1946, the single party in the country evolved into a multi-party. The people elected a leader whom at the latter part of his term was removed from position due to increase in economic crisis he failed to address. After the removed leader, Turkey once again elected a leader. He was removed from the seat as well due to a coup de etat. After this, the people resolved to election again.
Currently, Turkey remains to be a superpower country as it was during the Ottoman days.
