After you lay your eyes on it, you'll be amazed that this UNESCO World Heritage Site has been a virtual unknown in the outside world. Pamukkala is a freak of nature, a standout in the realm of the bizarre.
Formed a few millenia ago by earthquakes that allowed calcium carbonate-rich water to seep into the surface, these weirdly beautiful and soda-white pools are a sight to behold. No wonder the ancient people usedto call it the "Castle of Cotton".
However, today it is forbidden to swim in the healing waters, as a measure to save it from being damaged. Although the mere sight of it would probably be enough for anyone.
