Just as it is with South Korea, the history of North Korea began after the division in the 1940's. The Southern part of the country was handed over to the Americans, while the Northern region was given to the Soviet Union. From this time, the country's prosperity slowly declined. The country, which used to be powerful, is dwarfed by the continuous development in the South. Today, the name South Korea is connected to nuclear wars and warheads.
