There are just things a wall can't hinder. One of them is the cuisine of North Korea and South Korea. Though parted by a declaration, the original and traditional culture was carried over to both sides. This made the two sides' cuisine similar. The main ingredients are usually vegetables and side dishes abound on dining tables. However, the Northern Korean foods are generally has a milder taste. Kimchi (pickled vegetables) is also a popular dish, but prepared with a little less spice. During summer, as it can sometimes be really hot in the country, naengmyeon kyeoul baech'u (cold noodle with winter cabbage) is usually served.
