North Korea Good to know |
North Korean culture was almost eradicated during the Japanese occupation. The Japanese people wanted to have the North Koreans assimilate their ways, including language, traditions, religion and other cultural aspect. However, the forceful assimilation only led to a bigger desire to preserve their country's treasure. Thus, even with numerous attempts to encroach the country, North Koreans were still able to preserve their identity. Some of the aspects of culture that remained traditional are the music, literature, and architecture. Religion was Buddhism and Confucianism during the then days and even to this day. Most of the country's festivals are based on these religions, like Buddha's birthday and the Arirang Festival.
