Due to the wobbly political relations of the two countries, entry of Americans to Iran has been made stricter. They are not allowed to travel individually and are required to be part of a legitimate group tour or with the guidance of an Iranian national. It is also necessary for visiting Americans to have an exact itinerary, which must be adhered to at all costs. Aside from Americans, Israeli nationals are also not allowed to enter the country, with or without visa. On the other hand, citizens holding Bosnian, Macedonian, Saudi Arabian, Singaporean, Slovenian, and Turkish passport may enter Iran and stay for up to three months without passport. Beyond these countries, visa will be necessary.
Mainly, there are two ways to obtain a tourist visa. This depends on how long the planned trip will be. For people wanting to stay longer than two weeks, visa before entry is necessary. If the stay will only be three days to two weeks, visa upon arrival may be applied for. These visas have almost the same requirements. Initially, two copies of completed application forms, a passport with a validity of at least six months and at least two blank visa pages, two passport-sized photos, invitation letter from a local travel agency, day-by-day itinerary, and a two way ticket together with a proof of a confirmed hotel reservation. These requirements may be submitted either to a consulate or embassy in the home country of the applicant or in the port upon arrival.
Applicants for an Iranian visa, usually wait more than two days before the visa is issued. Afterwards, the Iran vacation may be culminated.
