The ancient Persia, Iran is indeed the place to go if one desires to know how it feels stepping into ancient history. Tourists who are very much inclined to ruins and historical sites are the common visitors of Iran and for most of them an Iran vacation is perfect if pre-travel warnings are heeded. Some of these warnings are money-related, hygiene-related, and visa-related, which makes them really important to know.
First, the back door-visa, arrival in Iran allows for a visa-free stay for a couple of days. However, travel to mainland requires visa. When getting visa from the port in Kish, it is really effortless. The only drawback is the applicant is required to exit through Kish. Thus, if there are no plans to exit through Kish, better apply for a tourist visa in some other entry port.
Second, the money-related warning is about ATMs. All existing ATMs only cater to local cards. Before entering the country, it is best to compute future expenses including the budget for Persian rugs which are a specialty. Try to bring in cash, rather than cards.
A third warning is about bargaining. As a tourist, make sure to bargain as much as you can for surely the initial offer will be really high. Try to ask around for the typical price before purchasing. When all else fails, try to bring a local when shopping. The local may help translate for sellers who can't understand as much pen and paper may.
Last but not the least is the public toilets. Yes, there exists public restrooms but they are too public to be clean enough. Travelers are advised to use their hotel comfort rooms as much as possible. If it cannot be avoided, make sure there is a roll of toilet paper that maybe used.
Though these things may absolutely ruin a trip, being prepared will be the best defense. It is always good to know something about something.
