The culture of Hong Kong is a unique mix of the East and the West. Adhering to Chinese customs due to demography, almost all aspects of the country's culture are founded on the values of family solidarity, courtesy, and dignity. Its customs and traditions are also slightly influenced by other nearby provinces like Guangdong, Fujian, and Teochiu. Religion is predominantly Buddhism, with some parts of the population practicing other forms like Confucianism, Taoism and other large denominations.
As it is in China, people in Hong Kong are inclined to ancient superstitious beliefs despite the world's constant modernization. Businesses are not started without Feng Shui (ancient Chinese system of aesthetics) consultations. While homes and other establishments still utilize bagua mirrors to ward off evils. Major celebrations like the Chinese New Year and the Duanwu Festival (Dragon Boat Festival) are also based on very old Chinese myths and legends.
