When coming to Ethiopia, there are a few things that travelers must note and remember. First is that, as any African country, there are wide-spread diseases in Ethiopia. AIDS or HIV is only one of them. Travelers are advised to practice safe sex in this country, just in case. Aside from health problems obtained from unsafe sex, there are also diseases carried by insects. For instance, flees are all over most hotels. Though it cannot cause fatal illnesses, it can still cause itchiness and rashes all over the body. For tourists who wish to come home with blemish-free skin, check the mattresses of hotel rooms first before taking a plunge.
Second thing to remember is that road accidents happen frequently in this area of Africa. Drivers are very reckless when comes to moving on the street. Thus, tourists are asked to be very careful when on the road. When crossing the street, use the pedestrian if there is any. When riding a cab, better buckle up, and when driving a rented car, drive slowly but surely.
A third important thing to take not when coming to Ethiopia is the money. Money is important as it is the means for barter. However, there are cities in the country without banks that exchange foreign notes to local currency. Thus, when visiting the country, it is best to be equipped with enough Ethiopian notes exchanged in Addis Abeba before moving on to another city.
Besides these, the only problems that tourists may possibly encounter in Ethiopia are petty theft and scamming, which are usual in any country in the world.
