East Timor Good to know |
East Timor, better known as Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, is a small country in Southeast Asia with a big history. Initially inhabited by Australoids and Melanesian people, the country experienced colonization in the hands of Portuguese people, Japanese, then Indonesians, who ruled for over 24 years. In those years of occupation, over a hundred thousand people died due to conflicts caused by East Timor people's desire to be freed.
In 1999, a clash between the pioneers for independence and the Anti-independence Timorese Militia caused about 1, 400 deaths, about 300,000 migrants to West Timor, and the wreckage of the country's chief architecture. Due to this, the international Force for East Timor was sent to topple down the hostilities. Subsequent to this, the country was finally declared independent. From the year 2002 until today, the brave Timorese people are experiencing the gift of the brave men who died for freedom.
