Cuban cuisine is may very well represent the country's culture. It is diverse and a combination of the cuisines of all the nations that inhabited the island. There is a hint of Spanish and African palate, as well as Caribbean taste. Unlike what most people think, Cuban dishes are nothing like Mexican dishes. Mexican food was adopted from Mayan and Spanish while Cuban has Caribbean and Spanish origins.

Apart from the seasonings and sauces, tourists must try the country's traditional foods, which carry the signature taste of the island. This includes tamales. Tamales in Cuba are not like its Mexican counterpart. It has a different recipe, something unique to the island. There is also the huevos a la habanera, which is made of fried eggs with white rice and fried plantains. Sandwiches in the country are also popular. There is the media noche sandwich, which translates to midnight sandwich. This is a dish made of egg loaf and sometimes without the ham.
