Since Colombia is an equatorial nation, there are no seasons. The country experiences periodic droughts. The coast and eastern plains have tropical climate while the highlands are cold and snowy. The Colombians' "winter" is really rainy season. Cities like Tunja, Bogota and Pasto are known to reach sub-zero temperatures. In contrast, the cities along the Atlantic, like Cartagena, Santa Marta and Baranquilla, are hot. Only mid-altitude cities, like Medellin and Pereira, are in a "perpetual spring."
