The history of Angola began with the exploration done by Portuguese troops. They established settlements and trading posts in the country. Until the year 1975, Angola remained under the Portuguese government. However, peace did not automatically ensue after the overthrow of the colonists. The country underwent a civil war. This war lasted until the 20th century. It incurred millions of dollars for losses and displaced over four million Angolans. Even Angolan children were said to have been involved in the war. To this day, violence may gradually lessened but due to the damages incurred the country will remain struggling for development.
