Due the 400-year reign of Portuguese government to the country, Angola culture became an evolved form of Bantu culture. It is the kind which is almost half Bantu and half Portuguese. Some of the elements of culture it shares with Portugal are the language (Portuguese), and the religion (Roman Catholicism). Given this religion, it followed then most of the major holidays in the country are based on it. The main celebration is Christmas, and Lent. Some customs are also based on catholic Christianity but there are still ways derived from the original Bantu.
