On Buddhist temples and monks

/ Asia / Thailand / Thailand Traveler Advice
Added: 4 months 2 weeks ago in Thailand

When visiting Buddhist temples, remember to dress modestly (no shorts, sleeveless tops, plunging necklines) and remove your shoes and leave them by the door.  Trigger-happy photographers should refrain from taking photos of people in prayer and the monks (they shy away from cameras most of the time).  It is also forbidden to take a photo of yourself with an image of Buddha.  You shouldn't touch its head also.

The monks are generally nice, but they are not allowed to touch a woman, or give and accept something directly from a woman's hands.  They have vowed to shun away material wants and they consider women as yet another worldly pleasure to stay away from.
