Thailand Good to know |
Thai culture can almost be directly linked to the Buddhist religion, which is very much predominant in the country. It is also influenced by some neighboring countries, especially China, Laos, Cambodia and India. Thais are known for their respectful customs and traditions like the wai gesture, which requires one to make a prayer gesture with the hands coupled with a nod of the head in acknowledging people. Feet are considered as dirty, and it is rude for them to place it higher than someone's head. Displaying of affection in public is also taboo, except in heavily westernized cities. Monks are especially forbidden to make any sort of contact with a woman.
