Never believe those who come to you and offer their "help".  A common scam especially when visiting temples is to tell the tourist that this place is closed for repairs or prayer services, yadda yadda.  Often they will "suggest" new itineraries for you, which is actually a wild goose chase along the crowded markets and shops where they get incentives if they get you to buy.  Check out for yourself first if their claims are true, and then never let them pressure you to decide where to go.  This is when doing your research about the place comes in handy, because you will know where to go and what to do.
