Unlike other islands in South America, South Georgia and Sandwich Islands have a cold climate. Its mountain ranges are mostly snow-capped and the water on its rivers is ice cold. Days on the island are often windy and cloudy, further shrouding the country from the sun. The average temperature of the island reaches up to 0 degrees Celsius in August and 12 degrees Celsius in January. Snow frequently falls in the country especially during the winter months. However, South Sandwich Islands is even colder especially during mid May to late November.
