Early Settlers
The country's early settlers were not recorded on the country's history. The only information known is that Guarani Indians, a group of people considered as natives of the land, dwelled on the Eastern part of the country for a thousand years. The group led a sophisticated way of life with a chiefdom being its political system.
The Spaniards
The Spanish people are the first Europeans to settle in and colonize the territory. Mostly made up of young men and a few women, this became the ancestors of half Spanish and half Guarani Indian population.
Under the rule of the Spaniards, the country experienced only a slightly turbulent political life. Unlike what was experienced by other South American countries, Paraguay had the most peaceful colonial history. The mother country had not much care and the citizens were as good as free. However, perhaps for the sake of formality, the country was declared independent from Spain in 1811.
Political turmoil and peace
After the country became independent from Spain, the authorities who were put in position caused the country more turbulent political events. The country entered wars, one after another. Afterwards, the desires of politicians to achieve utopian life, the country had continuous internal strife until finally the country had peace that was not short lived.
