The history of Nepal is best described as a very long struggle for democracy. Settled by a combination of people from its neighbors, India and China, the country once had three kingdoms. From the 15th to the 18th century this kingdoms lived separately until it was unified into one monarchy, ruled by one family. For many years, the people of Nepal sought to break down this ruler. Until the year 2008, the country was having an internal war. Had there not been a signed peace treaty and a snap election in the same year the country would have remained under the Nepal royal family's rule and would not be enjoying the peace that liberation entails.
