Found right at the heart of Tenom is the Antonom Memorial. This statue is dedicated to Ontoros Antonom who the locals claim was born in 1885. He participated in the Rundum Revolution while he was only 30 years old and using his strong leadership skills, he united the Murut people against a common enemy.
The Antonom Memorial isn't just to commemorate the great leader, but those who stood by his side as well. It is for all the soldiers who fought and died bravely against the British colonists. They died for their people, for their land and more importantly, for their freedom. The memorial makes sure that future generations do not forget where they come from.
