Malaysian food mirrors the various ethnicities the country holds within. It also shows the different levels of creativity of each ethnic group. Despite this, the country has one national ingredient, rice, which most countries have as staple food. Noodles are only second in the long list. Fruits are also abundant. Not only common fruits, but the sweet and juicy tropical ones like mangosteen, mango, durian, and longan. Kangkung Belacan or wok-fried water convolvulus with shrimp paste is one of the traditional dishes. For traditional soup, they have Soto, which is a soup with mee hun or ketunat.
Aside from food from formal restaurants, hawkers in Malaysia also sell cooking that tourists usually come after. Roti Canai, a kind of flatbread is one of the popular cheap foods in Malaysia. Within this group also comes, Malaysian oxtail soup, and other barbecued food.
