Food in Kuwait is a fusion of Central Arab region, Indian, Persian, and Mediterranean cooking. Dishes are very flavorful and literally colorful because of numerous herbs and condiments. It is usually served in bulk and offered to guests as a symbol of hospitality. The national dish machboos or majboos is typically mutton or chicken placed over a large mass of mixed rice. It is also topped with nuts and raisins for added taste.
Aside from the national dish, Kuwait is also known for kouzi,a Kuwaiti cooking consists of roasted lamb stuffed with rice, chicken, eggs, and other ingredients. For dessert, gers ogaily may be ordered from specialty restaurants. This is a cake made with eggs, flour, sugar, cardamom, and saffron. Tea is a common beverage, as well as buttermilk, called laban. When looking for a main dish and dessert in one, travelers are advised to try balaleet or the sweetened noodle. This can give a good supply of carbs and sugar for a lazy walk around town.
