Despite the conquests that the country underwent, Kazaks were able to maintain a connection with their original culture. Muslims abound in the country but there are still people who honor and practice the beliefs and traditions of Tengriism, the ancient Kazak religion. Moreover, the country mostly adheres to nomadic lifestyle. People are into animal husbandry, and the traditional Kazak home, yurt, still exists despite the mushrooming of modern infrastructures. Due to the predominance of the Islamic religion, major celebrations in the country are based on Islamic calendar of events.
