Lying in the middle of the Fertile Crescent, the history of Iraq began when the constant flooding of Tigris and Euphrates made way for abundant harvest. It may be said that after this good start, Iraq situation went downhill. It is characterized by subsequent colonialisms which did not help in any way to the development of the country. From the Achaemenids in the ancient times, the British who ruled the early nineties of the country, to the Americans who meddled in the stately affairs, Iraq is constantly at war. What began as a land blessed by nature, became a land of violence. To this day, Iraq is still struggling to recover from the ruins, trying to regain the fertility it once had.
