The Glossary
The birthplace of China's Red Army and the "Cradle of the Chinese Revolution" is Jinggang Shan or Mount Jinggang, a thickly-forested massif that became an important Communist Revolution site since it is where Mao Zedong led an army of 1000 men to form his first peasant soviet. Every year, the mountain attracts thousands of local tourists interested in revolutionary history. Some of the visitors climb the slopes to relive the soldiers' struggles, while others stop by the Revolutionary Museum, the Martyrs Cemetery, and the mint of the Red Army to peek at the beginnings of the People's Republic of China.
